I am an economist and number-cruncher, using data to explore the economic and social logic in China. Currently,I am an Associate Professor at Business School, Nanjing University, P. R. China and a Research Fellow of the Global Labor Organization.

My research interests are Labor, Development and Applied Econometrics. Most of my research focuses on the following topics of China:

  • Rural to Urban Migration
  • Fertility and Parental Well-being
  • Inequality and Intergenerational Mobility

March 2024: Good news! The paper I collaborated on with Professor Zhang Mingang and Sun Weizeng from Central University of Finance and Economics, and Dr. Guo Siwei from Columbia University, “Special economic zone and infant mortality: Evidence from China?” has been accepted and published online by the leading health economics journal Health Economics.

August 2021: Now I am recruiting Econometrics Course Assistant (TA), especially welcome students who are interested in academic research and teaching and are willing to further study causal inference methods and applications. Details and requirements can be found here.

June 2021: I was invited to participate in the 13th National Postgraduate Forum on Population and Development sponsored by the Institute of Population and Development of Nankai University. As a comment teacher, I commented on the papers reported by the students.

June 2021: Now I am recruiting for a postgraduate assistant (TA), especially welcome students who are interested in academic research and willing to learn microdata and measurement methods. Details and requirements can be found here.

September 2020: In the tense atmosphere of epidemic prevention and pneumonia, the new semester begins. This semester, I will teach Econometrics and Labor Economics in the third grade of undergraduates (in cooperation with Mr. Li Xiaochun), as well as Microeconomics and Labor Economics and Public Policy in the first grade of graduate students. Perhaps the task is relatively heavy, but the thought of finally being able to communicate face to face with students is still gratifying and looking forward to it.

August 2020: In the lecture series of “The Third Advanced Econometric Summer School of Jiangsu Province”, I was responsible for teaching the short course of causal inference principle and the method of decomposition of wage difference. The summer school is run by Nanjing University of Finance and Economics and is for graduate students majoring in economics across the country. July 2020: Now I recruit teaching assistants (TA) for graduate and doctoral students studying at Nanjing University to be responsible for the auxiliary teaching tasks of undergraduate econometrics courses in the fall semester of 2020. May 2020: Recently, at the invitation of Nanjing Big Data Administration, I participated in the symposium of “Big Data Special Report” organized by the Bureau to provide professional advice and suggestions for the analysis of big data of Nanjing population and economic information.

March 2020: Affected by the COVID-19, Nanjing University has not officially opened yet. But I will teach the course of “Management Decision-making in the Age of Big Data” online to on-the-job MBA students in business schools through the zoom platform. Although the ruthless plague has cost us a lot, learning has to continue and life has to continue.

November 2019: I had the honor to participate in the 2019 Academic Annual Conference organized by the “Research Center for People’s Livelihood Security and Public Governance of Zhejiang University” and reported on my paper “More Children, More Happiness” with Gao Yanyan of Southeast University. ?” New Evidence from Chinese Elderly Parents.

September 2019: Good news! My paper, “Internal Migration and Mental Health: An Examination of the Healthy Migration Pheno” in collaboration with Mr. Ma Chao of Southeast University menon in China, accepted by the well-known demography journal Population Research and Policy Review. From submission to formal acceptance, the paper was revised in four rounds, which took nearly two years.

August 2019 : I gave a three hours lecture about “Causal Inference and Decomposition Method in Economics” to graduate students in economics,who attended the 3nd Summer School of Advanced Econometrics held by Nanjing University of Finance and Economics. September 2019 : A good news.My paper coauthored with Professor Chao Ma“Internal Migration and Mental Health: An Examination of the Healthy Migration Phenomenon in China” has been accepted by Population Research and Policy Review, which is a selected peer-reviewed journal covering demography.

August 2019 : An exciting news. I was informed that one of my papers coauthored with Professor Yanyan Gao“More Children, More Happiness?” New Evidence from Chinese Elderly Parents has been accepted for presentation at the Asian and Australasian Society of Labour Economics (AASLE) 2019 Conference, which will be held in December by National University of Singapore.

July 2019 : I am currently recruiting exceptional students to work with me as teaching assistant for an undergraduate level course Introduction to Econometrics. While preference is given to PhD or second-year graduate students in economics at Business School, in rare cases opportunities may exist for students in other social science, such as sociology, education and public administration.
