本课程将结合劳动经济学、发展经济学、公共经济学、产业经济学和国际贸易等应用微观领域中的实际研究问题来学习几种主要的微观计量经济学方法。其中特别强调通过学习国外经典文献的“经典”方法，来对中国现实问题进行尝试性的微观经验研究，力求学生通过本课程的学习，希望达到下述目标：
认识劳动、人口、发展、公共经济学和国际贸易等应用微观领域中经验研究的主要方法。
熟悉应用微观经济学中经验研究的基本方式和流程。
培养学术研究的品味，明确学术研究的定位与方向。
上课的主要方式是教师讲授和学生报告相结合。期中需要提交论文计划(proposal)并进行课堂汇报，期末需要在论文计划的基础上汇报论文的初步结果，并上交论文扩展摘要(extended abstract), 最后在下学期开学之前上交论文的终稿。
